Today there was no school at WLA. Instead, the ACT Workshop was held to help all juniors prepare to take the ACT. Many students attended the 6-hour long instructional period and many said they learned something that would help them. I think the ACT Workshop is a good way to prepare for the test. It can help you to prepare by providing you with useful information and helpful practice tests.
For all other WLA students, today was the end of a 3-day weekend of relaxation. Tomorrow everything will have to go back to school whether they want to or not.

Sunday, February 22
Today the WASSAC tournament concluded at WLA. Students from the area association have enjoyed their weekend at the Academy and many will be joining the student body next year.
The WLA Traveling Choir visited St. Paul's North Fond du Lac this morning. They sang their sets of sacred music in both the 7:45 a.m. service and the 10:15 a.m. service. The choir is a great way to enhance Sunday morning worship services in all the association's churches. They visit all 39 churches over the course of their 2 year tour. The choir will also be traveling to New York City to sing at Carnegie Hall this June.
Students are excited to have the school day off tomorrow. Although some juniors will be attending the ACT Workshop at WLA.

Today at WLA the WASSAC tournament continued. The field was narrowed as teams began to accrual more losses. The field was dropped to 6 teams on both the girls and boys sides, respectively. There will be a consolation championship, a 3rd place game, all followed by the championship game.
Students at WLA usually take their Saturdays to relax and hang out with friends. This makes it the most exciting day of the week for many students.

The WASSAC (Winnebago Area Small School Athletic Conference) tournament is being held this weekend at WLA. It started today with first and second round games being played by both boys and girls. The boys and girls on the Academy's varsity basketball teams each hosted a different team from the area lutheran grade schools. These students left class during the day to go and host their teams. I think this was a good idea because like the visitation of students yesterday it is a good recruiting tool for WLA. Many of the students from these various grade schools don't come to WLA , but having a role model from WLA can enhance their weekend experience and may influence some to attend the Academy.
WLA's boys basketball team had another exciting game tonight with cross-town rival St. Mary's Springs. The boys team won 41-38 in a defensive battle. The Vikings managed to pull ahead late in the 4th quarter with clutch free throw shooting by Mike Schraufnagel. This victory puts the Vikings into better position for the playoffs as they may now be considered for the 3rd seed in their region after being projected 7th.

5th and 6th graders from Grace in Oshkosh visited WLA today. Eric was the only member of our group to have a kid with him. He took him along to all his classes in order to show him what WLA is like. I think that having grade schoolers come in from area lutheran grade schools is a good idea because it keeps kids interested in WLA and it is a good recruitment tool for WLA. It can be a lot of fun for the high school students too.
In the athletics of WLA, the girls' basketball team plays North Fond du Lac tonight. If they win, they are guaranteed at least a share of the conference championship. I am going to go and a lot of students will be there also. It should be a good game.
